Your First Orthodontist Visit

Our objective is to make sure your visits with us will be pleasant and informative. Your initial appointment will consist of an examination and a discussion of potential treatment options. This important visit will address the orthodontic needs of you or your child.

Please assist us by providing the following information PRIOR to your first visit:

  • Any recently taken x-rays (if applicable)
  • If you have dental insurance, please provide the policy information prior to your appointment
  • Complete the Patient Registration Online Forms, listed below, PRIOR to your first appointment.

Patient Registration Online Forms

Paper Forms

If you prefer not to fill out your information online, we will provide one in the office. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment to allow time to fill out the paper form.

If you’re unable to open PDF files, you can get Adobe Reader® for free.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern (i.e. diabetes, osteoporosis and any other bone or connective tissue disorders, cardiovascular conditions, artificial heart valves and joints, etc.) or if you are on any medication. We would also like to know about any known allergies.

Broken Appointments: If for some reason you cannot make it to your appointment, please call or text our office at Central Texas Orthodontics Phone Number (512) 292-1910. By doing so you allow another patient to use that time as well as reschedule your appointment. If it is after hours please text us or call and leave a voicemail and we will reach out to you the next business day.

Diagnostic Records & Treatment Planning

Diagnostic records usually consist of dental photographs, orthodontic x-rays and a 3D digital scan of your teeth. Once these orthodontic records have been obtained, Dr. St. Louis will review them and discuss potential options to determine a specific treatment plan that fits your orthodontic needs. Once the treatment plan has been chosen we can set up the necessary appointments to begin your orthodontic treatment and also set up financial arrangements for you.

Successive Visits

Periodic visits are an important part of orthodontic treatment. Generally, we will want to see you every 6-12 weeks to check your progress and make adjustments to your braces or clear aligners. During this time, you will need to keep appointments, follow instructions, eat nutritiously and practice good oral hygiene. Also continue to visit your dentist regularly.

Once your braces are removed or the clear aligners are completed, retainers are utilized to hold your teeth in their new positions until your bone, gums and muscles adapt to the new teeth positions. The retention period is an important part of your overall treatment and should not be neglected!

Length of Treatment

Braces may be on between 6 months to 30 months or longer depending on the age of the patient, the severity of the problem, the patient’s cooperation and the degree of movement possible.

Dental Care

Before any orthodontic treatment, your family dentist should make certain that all cavities have been treated and the health of your gums and underlying bone are free of periodontal disease.

In addition, if Dr. St. Louis prescribes any extractions or uncovering impacted teeth, your dentist or an oral surgeon will perform those procedures. Your family dentist should also schedule cleaning and cavity checkup visits during your orthodontic care. We would like to reinforce the need to keep your regular visits with your family dentist because we are only an aid to your family dentist and not a replacement.
